Victoria Park goes from Strength to Strength

Victoria ParkDenton MP Andrew Gwynne, is celebrating three years of new funding for sports in Victoria Park.

Last August the people of Denton celebrated the opening of brand new sports facilities in Victoria Park, after a successful £85,000 grant from Barclays, Groundwork, the Tameside Trust and the Football Foundation renovated the existing run-down courts to create new facilities.

Groundwork have now successfully applied to Barclays Spaces for Sports and the Tameside Sports Development Fund for an additional £20,000 to run sports activities on the multi-use courts for the next three years.

A variety of sports will be able to be played on the new site including mini tennis, football and basketball.

Andrew Gwynne MP said:

“This is great news. I have worked with the people of Denton for many years to ensure that we have first class community facilities for people to enjoy. Last year we opened a brand new sports facility in Denton’s Victoria Park, after a major cash injection from Barclays Spaces for Sports, the Tameside Trust, Football Foundation, the Council and others. Now Groundwork have succeeded in a securing a further £20,000 to make full use of these facilities over the next three years, and get more people playing sports and keeping fit.”
