Denton Post Office to stay
This week Andrew Gwynne MP met with senior officials from Post Office Limited to discuss the on-going problems at Denton Post Office, and to seek an assurance that the current problems will not jeopardise Denton’s postal services in the future. Andrew Gwynne conveyed the concerns of local residents at the meeting that there remains no proper signage on the shop front, the service is suffering from staffing shortages, and the retail unit still remains empty. Andrew Gwynne pressed upon officials that local residents wanted a well functioning Post Office in Denton, and that the current problems needed to be resolved quickly. Andrew Gwynne MP said: “I am pleased by what I heard from Post Office Limited. The Post Office are working closely with the current franchisee to ensure that a proper sign goes up, the staffing shortages are overcome, and an occupier for the retail unit is found.” “If the current issues cannot be overcome, I am assured that this will not be used as an excuse for closure in the up-coming network review. As a last resort the franchise can be withdrawn from the current owner, and Post Office Ltd. hope it won’t come to that, but come-what-may there will continue to be a Post Office in Denton town centre, and that was the main assurance that I wanted.”
